"Glossing over the brutal history of US slavery will only increase anti-Blackness in the near term by signalling that anything said, written, done, or experienced by Black people in the US matters not and instead deserves erasure and marginalisation. It will also promote internalised racism among African Americans in the long run."

It's late, "but better late than Laettner," as I like to say. Please read/comment on my latest, via @AJEnglish

Whitewashing slavery in US schools will teach students anti-Blackness

Black students who are exposed to a glossed-over version of US history will inevitably internalise anti-Black racism.

"Like pseudo-scientists experimenting on zombies, DeSantis and his State Board of Education are attempting to rehabilitate the racist ideas and deeds of slave owners. They are trying to resurrect the racist assertions of so-called historians who have desperately tried to defend slavery and slave owners since 1865."

The More DeSantis Changes, the More the US Stays the Racist Same

The below may seem like a departure from my typical posts, but it dovetails well with what I intend to post in the coming weeks. The end of affirmative action for a few handfuls of mostly middle class and affluent African Americans, the banning of curricula and books on Black history and culture (straight and queer), and the attempt to brazenly erase the truth and lie about slavery and US and Black history. It’s all I’ve been predicting in articles since 2015. The present and future of all this I’ve been working on in my Olivia/Fool’s Gold manuscript over the past half-decade or so. Being right is downright depressing. But it motivates me to continue banging on, too.

So when I say the American Devolution is well under way, the #SCOTUS decisions last week merely reflect this reality. Even the miserly, inchworm kind of progress on systemic racism and gaping class inequalities is too much in a nation full of “it’s a white man’s country” men and “pick me, pick me!” foot-soldiers-of-the-racial-patriarchy women. #AffirmativeAction #StudentLoanForgiveness #Meritocracy #AmericanDream #SocialMobility #HigherEducation

"Given the history of social mobility in the US, the idea of 'Only in America' is a straight-up lie. It is a lie that attracts desperate migrants and asylum seekers to the US like honey attracts insects, only to entrap, envelope and kill"
My latest for Al Jazeera English. Pls read and tell me what you think:

‘Only in America…’ is a narcissistic lie

America sells a lie of social mobility to attract migrants and asylum seekers only to entrap most of them.

Why are most US historians against Critical Race Theory?
