@[email protected] definitely get money out of politics. It is ridiculous to me American politics in particular which is more like a media competition than anything else.
@aburtch agreed! I find it astonishing how much focus is on social movements and surface level inequality but not on the underlying economic system that is driving it. It’s like putting a bandaid on a knife wound and hoping it stops the bleeding.
@FabAI I think this will have huge implications because it can now give advice on the latest technology trends, sector forecasts, etc. Although, on the other hand, it could consistently be giving out skewed or erroneous information which might lead, for example, to a more inefficient market in terms of investing
@alxd this is actually interesting and I hadn’t thought of it. There are obviously so many historical figures who would now be prosecuted for actions related to colonialism, slavery, etc. and so in that sense death has actually been a beneficial escape from justice for them.

@[email protected] one of the greatest ironies of our world.

The true question seems to be: if money in our capitalist society gives you power through access to resources, how do you bypass money to gain power? You could say organizing and activism, but even that is typically done through social media and the use of phones/email/tech so you’re back at square one.

@KatLS this is a good point and I think the feminist marxist critics would agree with you.
@garyhall this sounds super interesting thanks for sharing

@breadandcircuses I think it’s because the western world and particularly those in positions of power in the western world feel like they are insulated from this looming crisis. It is the wealthy who can afford gated communities, security, cars, jets, AC and heating, etc.

They’re also the ones in control of the media. Every time this is mentioned it sounds like a conspiracy but consider Bezos owning the Washington Post. Don’t tell me this doesn’t impact their coverage.

@davidnjoku I honestly think the myth of Icarus applies quite well
@maxleibman also arguably Bezos and many other entrepreneurs and investors don’t risk their own money. They risk money they have inherited or were given by wealthy family and friend networks, and actually can lose without facing great personal harm because it won’t hurt any of their bottom lines.
