I first learned how to program in 1984 at 14. The tech press said I'd be obsolete by 25, due to age.

About 1990 tech press said the Japanese were building fifth generation computers to make me obsolete.

In 2000, the dot com bubble bursting was said to make me obsolete.

There's been neural networks, no-code, and more, since then, to make me obsolete.

Now it's LLMs.

Excuse me while I sit here and don't panic.

EDIT: This blew up. Muting the thread for some peace and quiet.

Remember when the facial recognition database is compromised it’s good security hygeine to change your face immediately. You should be changing your face at least once every 6 months for most security

these people have basically become addicted to gambling. think about it: they pour money into tokens, obsess about that leading to a good result, keep spending until (and then well after) that happens, all while never being able to stop themselves from thinking about it. AI’s a slot machine.

If you have a Ring (Amazon) camera, you are -- or will become -- a tool of the surveillance state. Is that really what you want to be?

With Ring, American Consumers Built a Surveillance Dragnet

Ring's 'Search Party' is dystopian surveillance accelerationism.

two equally true things:

1. knowing how to binary search is one of the most important algorithms every human should know
2. whenever you have to manually binary search on a computer, software has failed you. it should be binary searching for you

in those days, occasional adults understood computers, but the bulk of the real insight was held by children. children were the ones who were playing in an exploratory fashion, whereas adults tended to treat it as a list of steps to memorize, even the ones who were trying to build expertise.

because the world incorrectly presents expertise as being about memorization, in general, not just in the area of computers
