did you know that the quicktime
MOV video container at one point supported

- 3d models
- 3d worlds built around streetview style panoramas
- timed sprite tracks with full 2d scaling rotation positioning and z ordering
- wired interaction that allows clickable buttons that skip to different times in the movie file
- SMIL support

One of the things that got the most people pissed off at me is my nihilism and distrust of “free software licenses”, the culture around free software, and how the GPL in particular is a red flag for a software project.

and now in 2025 after project after project had masked off as full blooded fascists, do I get any apologies?

nope, cassandra never gets her cake and ice cream

friends should be able to object to a marriage on the grounds that we’ll have to hear the never ending complaints about their shitty relationship
no one ever tried combining hypercard stacks with teletext pages

Technology Connections had a video demonstrating the technology that allowed industry to store high resolution digital audio on a VHS tape, and it has me dreaming of an alt history Mac Classic form factor machine with vhs slot on the front; similar to those TVs with built in VHS players;

but this one is able to read and write cd quality audio on VHS along with interactive multimedia.

it’s all well and good to just link to someone else’s tutorial, but retelling the process of learning from a bunch of different perspectives is so fucking valuable, ya cunts

and once i have written all these tutorials, and you have read and understood them and are well on your way to setting up your own site,

a tutorial on writing versions of all these tutorials on your site

a tutorial on setting up an rss feed

a tutorial on subscribing to an rss feed

a tutorial om writing rss feed reader and aggregation software

a tutorial on why breaking our dependency on big social media platforms is essential

and a tutorial on compelling your friends to publish their events on a personal site instead of on facebook

what the world needs now is more plain html and css tutorials

what the world needs is jquery tutorials or other very modest javascript tutorials that leans heavily into the somewhat abandoned concepts of *graceful degredation* and *progressive enhancement*~ the radical idea that javascript is neat but your site should still work fine when it’s switched off.

the world needs tutorials on how to find and pay for simple web hosting.

And I say more, more more because tutorials are not a thing where you write on a topic and that topic is done: A tutorial is topic + audience. We need these things to be written about from many perspectives and for many levels of prior understanding
