Any #CSS experts out there that can help me solve this puzzling question about CSS custom props, aliasing, inheritance and `:root`?

Look at this codepen: https://codepen.io/didoo/pen/OPLbROG

Why the color cascades down correctly, via the "aliased" CSS variable, when the "theming" class is applied to the `<html>` element (which is `:root` in CSS) and not when it's applied to the `<body>` element? (In the same way as the non-aliased variable works)

I don't understand: what am I missing? 🤔

Strange CSS props inheritance

The talk that took me on an unexpected journey (and blew my mind a bit, tbh) was “Less Design, More Systems” by @scott_riley.
I’ll leave a couple of pictures I’ve taken, to give you a a little taste, but if/when the recording will be online I suggest to watch the entire talk (I’ll do).
The talk that resonated the most with me was “What to do when everyone hates you (and your design system)” (sic. 😀) by Diane Larsen, DS Manager at Tesco. The way in which she conceptualized the different layers of “where things happen” and where the design system integrates (and how) is simply perfect!

A couple of photos of Brighton, beautiful as always

Great first day at #ConvergeUK! Fantastic talks*, great vibe, a LOT of food for thought (also for a seasoned** design system practitioner like me), and above all was nice to catch up with long time friends, as well as meeting new like-minded ones. I can’t wait to be back tomorrow for the second part!

* kudos to who worked on the lineup 👏 and to @zeroheight for organizing the event

every internet company rebrand is like "we're so excited to launch our new brand identity designed in collaboration with [prestigious sounding design firm] which aims to capture the playfulness at the heart of what we do" and then you look at it and its just their name but they picked a different font

Excellent #DesignSystems post by @nathanacurtis "The Fallacy of Federated Design Systems" https://medium.com/@nathanacurtis/the-fallacy-of-federated-design-systems-23b9a9a05542

Very much echoes my experience too. A fully federated design system sounds like a nice idea, but I've never encountered one. Or, for that matter, encountered an org where I felt that would be achievable and sustainable.

100% agree on the centralised *and* federated model as something to consider striving for. I've seen that work.

The Fallacy of Federated Design Systems - Nathan Curtis - Medium

Six months back, the design system team disbanded. In its place, a “federated model” of design and engineering staff (none relieved of other responsibilities) was designated to drive design system…

Just a little reminder that I have almost immediate availability for any Design Systems consultancy or front-of-the-front development work you or clients might need. Let’s have a chat about how I can help your projects thrive.
