2024 was the warmest year on record for Europe.
This alarming trend highlights the urgent state of our climate:
🌪️Storms and flooding affected an estimated 413,000 Europeans
🌡️60% of Europe saw more days than average with at least ‘strong heat stress’
❄️All European regions saw a loss of ice
Despite the challenges, the proportion of electricity generation by renewables reached a record high in 2024, at 45%
In a boiling planet, our action is ever more urgent, and vital.
Diversity makes us stronger – Women at MPL in all fields!
On International Women’s Day (#IWD2025) tomorrow, we celebrate the incredible women at #MPL. 35% of our staff, including scientists, our head of administration, and department heads, are women. Programs like the Lise-Meitner Excellence Program and Minerva Fast Track support their careers. The Max Planck Society aims for 54.5% women in leadership positions.
Let’s celebrate successes and keep fighting for equality!
