Was a geek and fitness enthusiast, then a brain haemorrhage kinda ruined my day. Now I'm trying to get back on my feet and figure out who I am.

Twenty years since London Bomb attacks they reckon. Seems both a short time and a long time. I wasn't in town and the first I heard of it was being woken up by messages asking if I was okay. Thought they were concerned I'd been taken away on the saucers on X-Day. 😆

Some say it was the biggest act of terrorism seen on these shores since the war!

But then 20 terrorists were arrested for terrorism this week! They were flagrantly and terrifyingly holding up signs saying "I support Palestine action", the terrorizing monsters. An action that's just as much terrorism under the law these days as blowing up trains and busses.

@Edent Maybe shove the scan into a comment, so people can check your honesty? But transcribed text seems more accessible for the main post.

Elon Musk and Steve Bannon’s public #feuding shows no signs of slowing down with Musk once again calling for #bannon to be thrown in prison.

“The fat, drunken slob called Bannon will go back to prison and this time for a long time. He has a lifetime of crime to pay for,” musk wrote in a July 4 X post in response to Bannon blasting Musk’s call for a new political party.

“The foul, the buffoon. Elmo the Mook, formerly known as #ElonMusk. Elmo the Mook.

@LoganFive "The good thing about Mastodon is that I can pause before posting my snarky comments, to decide if this is a good situation for them."

I feel the same. I can pause, decide if it's good posting material, realize it's a terrible idea, and then proceed to click "post" anyway

Hell is other people's key performance indicators.
@mhoye I used to love SwiftKey :( used it even on iOS for a while.

@mhoye Microsoft should really start making vacuum cleaners. Imagine how easy it will be to sell them:

From the company that is a worldwide and history proven provider of products that really suck, the new original Microsoft Suckit vacuum cleaner!

Guaranteed to suck!(*)

(*) After installing 15 windows updates.

yeah, but the moment you get used to using it, they'll come out with a newer, even worse version and force you to upgrade 💀

@mhoye I remember when that one came out. It was amazing, and made typing on a mobile keyboard perhaps not pleasant, but at least tolerable.

I even had some interesting conversations with the founder. The prediction algorithm was based on his PhD thesis if I understand things correctly, and I was helping it find some papers on the same topics for Swedish to help them implement support for Swedish.

The application was bought by MS, which the first bad sign.

Then they started enshittifying it, and added "ai" long before the current hype cycle started, and it got worse and worse at, you know, writing actual words that I wanted to convey.

At some point it was so bad that I just stopped using it and moved to the Samsung keyboard. And that's saying a lot, given just how unpleasant that keyboard is to use.

Ads came after that, and no, I am in no way surprised.

@mhoye Would the ads be displayed to user… or quietly inserted into text being written?
@mhoye I don't know what they're talking about with "contains ads". I've been using SwiftKey for about a decade and I've never seen an ad in my keyboard or anywhere in the config app.

@ZahmbieND @mhoye

☝️

+100 to this. I've used SwiftKey as my keyboard since I got my first Android phone and have never seen an ad.

@mhoye ugh, SwiftKey used to be good :| lately it fails to even render the keyboard sometimes, so I’ll end up with a blank one and have to reboot my device to get it back. Probably time to look for alternatives.
@mhoye a keyboard with AI 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ads? Where do I sign up?

@mhoye

Cool! I can do my shopping, based on who pays Microsoft the most, while my keyboard writes my book!

</s>

@mhoye uastpcpuhuesae@!@##!!

Putting ads in a keyboard is the crappiest thing I've heard of in quite some time outside of politics.

@mhoye SwiftKey was awesome before MicroSoft bought it
