Looking to get some gorgeous BIRD photos with delightful and often amusing DESCRIPTIONS in your Mastodon feed? I recommend following multitalented YA author / songwriter & musician / webcomic creator @angrykem.

While I am really enjoying Mastodon and will continue using it for connecting with kindred spirits and conversations, I will NOT be switching away from Twitter. I've written up a blog post explaining why: https://debbieohi.com/2022/11/mastodon-is-it-a-good-alternative-to-twitter/ #LearningMastodon
Mastodon: Is It A Good Alternative To Twitter?

(Last updated November 22, 2022) Like many others, I’ve been checking out Mastodon as a possible alternative to Twitter, if the latter implodes the way some say it might. Of all social media platforms, Twitter is my personal favourite. I get why some people say it’s negative but for me, . . .

Best way to get young people to invest their time in reading is to be willing to invest time in it ourselves.

Looking for a kidlit illustrator and author who is making the most of Mastodon? I recommend following my friend @charlenedraws. Notice that she pinned her introduction AND included some sample art to that introduction. I also love the mix in her feed of talking about not only her own art and books, but also boosting content about #KidLit #KidLitArt and #Illustration.

One reason I love found object art so much: it helps remind me to look more deeply, to not take the things (& people) around me for granted.

Each day, I'm going to figure out one new thing about Mastodon. Today, I'm experimenting with ALT text...and would appreciate your feedback.

Yesterday, the ALT text I added to my images seems to appear for some people but not others, and part of that depended on whether they were looking at my post on a mobile or desktop app.

I have added ALT text to this image. Can YOU see it? And are you on a desktop computer, or mobile app? (and if the latter, which one?) Thanks so much!

I'm creating a number of different filters, each with certain keywords, phrases, or names. Love that I can see my Filter names when someone's filtered post comes up, so I can make the decision whether or not to "Show anyway." I can also see how this could be handy if I want to avoid spoilers on a particular show or book, too!

In case others want to do this as well and don't know how:

Here's a comic for those doing #NaNoWriMo right now!

Also, I just found out that when I click on "xDelete" on an uploaded image and replace it with another, it appears as "Not available" to users even though it DOES appear ok to me on my desktop. Takeaway: Better just to delete the entire post and repost, rather than replace an image. Thanks to @McLachlanBrian & @FreshLookEdit for their help!

I'm going to be using the "hide boosts from a particular user" for some people I'm following because I'm finding my home feed being filled with a LOT of boosts from the same people lately. And I promise to be more selective with what boosts *I* make from now on as well! This screenshot is from https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/

More things I'm liking about Mastodon so far: No PRIVATE messages on Mastodon (making it different from Twitter, FB & IG). I like that you can only add people to a list if you're following them. I like that Filters help me curate what I do and don't see...today I added a filter for the name of a certain U.S. politician to my "Anti-negativity" filter. Yes, it means I will miss out on seeing some potentially good posts...but I can always click on "Show anyway" if I choose to. #TwitterMigration
