@overcastfm
Ive used overcast for years now, and wasn't able to renew premium one year because I went through fiscal issues and just never came back. Until today. The app is amazing. Best straightforward podcasting app ive ever used. New design has its quirks, but GOD ITS FAST!

Thank you so much. I only regret not have re-upped premium sooner. The cost is very affordable.

@atomicbirdseed @robpegoraro @adschina @drewharwell @cqz "prudent" - acting with care or thought for the future.
Id suggest if you want to take the prudent view, you'd want to deal with the underlying privacy problem. China doesn't play with a straight bat, and when you give them a straight bat, you learn every bat in the stadium is corked, because no one is playing with a straight bat.
@JamesGleick @darwinwoodka I think when everytrime you publish an article on section 230, you have to issue a correction that the problems with section 230 were actually problems with the first amendment, and you publish the same rewritten attack a few months later, there is a rot at the core of your editorial function.

It would indicate political grandstanding. If this was about preventing US citizen data by China, this move stops none of China's potential to acquire US citizen data. Your data was in their hands long before TikTok ever hit the market.

@drewharwell Which frankly doesnt matter, because the admitted data sales of every other app and your mobile provider and every ISP behind every internet connection you wifi to has already provided every bit of that data to China anyway.
@edbott I'd love to discuss, but It wont close the popup without me inviting email spam, so ill just assume zero thought has been put into the FTC consent decrees meta has over using data without user consent.

Id argue, the core of the problem is the complete dominance of right libertarianism in america. The libertarianism hijacked by Ayn Rand and corporate interests. Because america is where ideologies go to die.

@arossp Part of the issue with the misunderstanding is the american libertarian party, and its capture by pro-corporate and white nationalist interests. WHere 'you can't interfere with my liberty" means much more than "I can't interfere with yours".
This leads to a libertarian party that argues that the liberty to sell spoiled food is sacrosant. Who talk about regulation in terms that no amount of harm justifies any regulation ever.
I'd argue the software company coordinating a price fixing ring among corporate landlords had a significant effect on rent inflation, enhanced by shortages caused by price speculation by those same landlords.
@caseynewton I am pretty confident they un-muted him from my feed.
