“The people who blame wokeness for the collapse of a bank do not want you to understand or even think about the political economy of banking in the United States. They want to deflect your attention from the real questions toward a manufactured cultural conflict. And the reason they want to do this is to obscure the extent to which they are complicit in — or responsible for — creating an environment in which banks collapse for lack of appropriate regulation.”

Opinion | The Boys Who Cried ‘Woke!’

There’s a reason Republicans want to distract our attention from what’s really going on.

The New York Times
@JamesGleick k sure but stop normalizing DeSantis and his fascism, NYT. And support trans people already.
@darwinwoodka One needs to appreciate complexity. The NYT is many things. One of them is Jamelle Bouie. Criticize them when they’re bad, praise them when they’re good.

@JamesGleick @darwinwoodka Or just realize that *in the aggregate* the NYT is bad, just an acceptably diverse bunch of comfortable upper middle class folks going home after a hard day fighting for the truth, dontcha know.

It’s nice they still have the fun content we libs love. The art! The literature! Man, I would love to give them $1/month for access to more of this self-assuring content.

But if the wide net they’re casting is ultimately a scaled smallpox blanket, it’s time to LEAVE.

@JamesGleick @darwinwoodka I think when everytrime you publish an article on section 230, you have to issue a correction that the problems with section 230 were actually problems with the first amendment, and you publish the same rewritten attack a few months later, there is a rot at the core of your editorial function.
