APOD: 2023 February 9 - Nacreous Clouds over Lapland

A different astronomy and space science related image is featured each day, along with a brief explanation.

“an e-bike subsidy is 2.9 times more effective per dollar at displacing gasoline miles than a zero-emission vehicle subsidy.”
Was there really a public information film about the dangers of running into a pane of glass being carried across the street by two workmen? If so, there had better be one about the perils of a man carrying a ladder.

Sack Jonathan Gullis now. That's all that needs to be said on the matter. He's an affront to human decency.
@thomasfuchs Well, no. I wasn't really claiming to have a solution, or even claiming that there could ever be one. But I think it's fair to suggest that from a sustainability viewpoint, it's a bit of a situation.

So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

Space Karen Sucks

Free speech really should be free. To bypass the new censorship regime at twitter, use this URL shortener to link to Mastodon or other censored destinations. Considering recent policy decisions on twitter, please be aware that use of links generated from this site may constitute a violation of their policy.

This is not a chart depicting Moore’s Law.

This chart is the CRAYOLA COROLLARY showing that the number of Crayola crayon colors doubles approximately every 18 years.
@thomasfuchs I didn't see the original, but I'm still alarmed to see that we, a single species, account for nearly 10 times as much biomass as all other wild mammals. I get your point, but that still seems a bit out of balance.
@ceejbot I'm no expert, but both seem to have gone downhill for me. DDG is less bad, so it's rare I resort to Google, but it's got to the point where after a cursory search for answers, I now often think: "If the internet is this hard to use, I'll just take a guess instead."
