Good morning, all! The server appears to be stable enough that I'm reopening account requests for hcommons.social. I am likely to space out approvals a bit to be sure that things remain stable.

We are still looking into ways of recovering some of the missing data. In the meantime, do alert folks who followed you since 11/17 that they might see you in their following lists but they may want to unfollow and refollow to ensure a proper connection.

More as we know it. And happy Friday, in the meantime!

I just watched the first few epis of the recent #educational series “Black American History” by Clint Smith that I highly recommend.

https://youtu.be/S72vvfBTQws

It’s #animated but the content is for older children and adults. It does an excellent job of relaying complex themes in a clear way. I’ve learned new things about the #transatlanticslavetrade that I never knew before.

One of the best things about it is that every episode is 15 minutes or less. Please check this out! #blackhistory

I want to see a painting of Ona Judge (an enslaved woman owned by Martha Washington and mercilessly pursued by George Washington) crossing the Delaware River (as she did) in her escape to Philadelphia.

Obviously entitled Ona Crossing the Delaware.

My book, Black Folk is on the way, it will be out in June 2023. Please preorder! Link is in my bio!

Langston Hughes had a pet monkey he’d gotten on his travels around the Horn of Africa. If I remember right, the monkey’s name was something like “Jimbo.” His mama didn’t like it. His step dad thought it was cool and took him to the local pool hall a few times in order to show off. One day the monkey shit on a pool table. Hughes had to get rid of the monkey after that.

Many of us have been #OctaviaButler fans for decades. I love that she's trending. I hope she's proud of all of the adaptations that are coming out. Being a #Cinematographer on #KIndredFX was / is still such an honor. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/11/17/arts/octavia-butler-vision-kindred.html

The letter adds that U of Oregon (#UO) and Portland State U (#PSU) are taking similar action.
