Alright, it's time to move instances once again (I'll try to not do that every six months now, promise).

Alright, when I started becoming active on Mastodon, I created a few different accounts (to see how the whole thing works, to test several instances, etc). Time to merge a few.
I think I'll still keep two English accounts (one more serious - this one - one less - the one @zirk.us). I will probably move this one to my account at spore.social. Any reason why I should keep it on this instance? I don't dislike it, far from it, but choices need to be made.
What kind of rabbit hole am I getting into this morning instead of getting ready for work? You may be wondering.
Oh, nothing, just discussing French grammatical gender with some English speakers... And my coffee is getting cold again (this has become the sign I need to pay attention to for spending too much time on social media in the morning)
There's a "gotcha" meme going around. It asks you to "divide 20 by half and add 10", and then mocks those who answer 20 instead of 50 for their poor math skills.
This is silly. It has nothing to do with math skills, and everything to do with how people choose to interpret ungrammatical English expression for a mathematical operation.
The key observation is that we don't say "divide by half." We say "divide IN half" or "divide by ONE half".
That one time I visited the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
