@carnage4life it’s tragic. The whole software engineering discipline is being frozen in amber. No reason for people to teach, or to develop the intuitions and instincts required to become masters of the craft. The *human* engine of ingenuity is being anesthetized and replaced by something that can to some extent reproduce and disseminate skill but can never really advance the discipline.

Based on our studies' evidence about eg the high desire developers have for communal affordances in their work, and the high impact sense of belonging has for technology teams on devs' ratings of their own productivity and their teams' effectiveness, I am also willing to bet feeling part of a global movement toward sustainability could be a protective factor for developers who have less agency at work. Climate conscious computing is often framed as a loss to tech but what if it's not in this way

Chasing trends can get you "tool-stranded" — the thing you're depending on goes away (probably because it's no longer the apple of some executive's eye).

Depending on a hot new toolset is asking for trouble (old man yells at clouds); you're better off using tools that were stable 15 years ago

This is not ONLY about "generative AI" but it is not NOT about generative AI.

Me as a young lesbian. First of all I moved from my mother country Uganda because I was facing a lot of problems. They even wanted to slaughter me like a goat because am a lesbian 🌈 and for me I was not ready to change what i am. Our president don't accept lesbians nor gays in our country Uganda. My mother and my sister they were both killed in the house by the community people coz they thought that I was inside the house. A lesbian in Uganda is taken as a satan right now. I had no one to give me any help and I decided to come In Kenya. I look for asylum. People in our country are still looking for me though I thought that I will be safe in Kenya.
