Stack Overflow’s monthly question volume peaked during the height of the COVID pandemic and has been in decline ever since. The steepest decline happening after ChatGPT launched in late 2022.

This was once a key part of every developer’s toolbox and the site is now effectively dead. End of an era.

@carnage4life it’s tragic. The whole software engineering discipline is being frozen in amber. No reason for people to teach, or to develop the intuitions and instincts required to become masters of the craft. The *human* engine of ingenuity is being anesthetized and replaced by something that can to some extent reproduce and disseminate skill but can never really advance the discipline.
