@chockenberry yes not good although might be a good time to convert from pretax to Roth while it’s lower (and then hopefully goes back up but that may take a new administration who doesn’t change things day to day).
@Cdespinosa congrats!
@stroughtonsmith honest question as I’ve been doing a few personal projects with AI - do you worry about your skills eroding? And does that matter? And what will the long term effects be on our brains and health if we don’t need to think hard about something frequently. There’s still thinking with AI if you give something lots of prompts vs. just do this thing but is it enough to keep our brains healthy?
@danielpunkass As someone who teaches computer science, I worry that AI is preventing stuents from learning the core concepts that are necessary to understand, even when using AI later in their educational and work careers. Some students see this and are avoiding AI for assignments (but still using it for reviewing for exams, etc.) while others are fine with AI doing their homework that is meant to develop their own skills.
@stroughtonsmith does copying the codex or claude executable you can update via brew etc. into the appropriate subdirectory in -/Library/Developer/Xcode/CodingAssistant not allow you to update w/o an Xcode release. I thought I heard it did.
@caseyliss I think most developers get a sense of satisfaction when we get something to work (especially if it was challenging for us) - which needs to outweigh how frustrating it can be when you are struggling to get it to work. There’s not nearly as much satisfaction when writing a prompt that wasn’t too challenging ends up making the working code.
@stroughtonsmith the @pointfreeco guys have a reimplementation of the Reminders app in their SQLite-Data library as an example app. Wonder if it trained on that repo. Code doesn’t look identical but exact copies are not what LLMs do.

Time flies when yer having fun!

Today marks 8 years of Point-Free: hundreds of hours of educational video, dozens of open source projects, and tens of thousands of developers reached.

We couldn’t do it without the support of our community. Here’s to 8 more!

Point-Free turns 8!

Point-Free turns 8! We’re announcing a live stream and a beta preview of the “Point-Free Way”.

@_Davidsmith a few days ago my uncle said it looked like it was going to install overnight and he didn’t see how to prevent it.

Sometimes our libraries have bugs. We're merely human!

But often we fix bugs and release the fixes in a matter of hours, not months. 😊
