Mara MatherNow publicly available, an fMRI dataset including over 150 younger and older adults. T1-weighted, functional MRI (fMRI), pulsed continuous arterial spin labeling (PCASL), proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS), and emotion regulation task during multiecho fMRI. During fMRI scans, physiological measures (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and end-tidal CO2) were continuously acquired. I recorded 1,000+ claustrum neurons using whole cell patch clamp and found that the claustrum synaptically supports fMRI defined fronto-posterior cortical networks

#claustrum has a lot of connections, but the strength and direction of connections with cingulate and frontoparietal networks suggest a specific role in cognitive control, as we wrote about here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1364661322002236
We focus on cognitive control, but as you suggest many other likely functional roles including sleep, anxiety, pain etc
