Recently I was talking to a friend, with an argument “I think most software is shit already, do we want more of more shit apps?!”, but his (sadly correct) response was “it does not matter, it will happen anyway”

So the implausible proposition that a system that *obviously* doubled up work and didn't defend against layout thrashing would somehow be "faster" was projected and uncritically accepted.
