This week the average price for standard (bifacial, monocrystalline silicon PERC) solar modules fell to a new record low of 9.5 US cents per Watt in normal markets.

I seriously remember in 2008 when a Watt cost $4.20, which is over $6 in 2023 dollars. Plus the modules would have been less efficient (less than 16% compared with today's ~23%), ie a Watt would take up more space.

The times they are a-changing.

If you want to know what’s happening in the US rooftop solar market, a great place to start is the Lawrence Berkeley Lab’s annual “Tracking the Sun” report, which I wrote about this week: https://insideclimatenews.org/news/05092024/inside-clean-energy-rooftop-solar-power-snapshot/

Connections confirmed between ‘grassroots’ Ohio solar opposition and dark-money natural gas group

Testimony in an Ohio regulatory case is the strongest evidence yet of links between a Knox County opposition group and people involved with The Empowerment Alliance.

I wrote about solid-state batteries, a technology that has long felt just out of reach, but—dare I say?—is now in reach. The implications for EV ranges and the transition away from gasoline vehicles are huge.

The push for solid-state batteries could lead to extra-long battery ranges as soon as 2027.

Imagine risking everything to leave your dirt poor Mexican village to find a job in the US to help your struggling parents. You speak an #Indigenous language, very little Spanish, no English and didn't know the US depends on your cheap labor to keep food prices low but deprives you of basic benefits while hanging the threat of deportation over your head.
When disaster strikes, as it will more and more with #climatechange, #farmworkers are left struggling to survive.

PAJARO, Calif.— It was half past midnight on March 11 when a cacophony of sirens and shouting jolted Emilio Vasquez and his family from a sound sleep. “Get out of your houses immediately!” a voice barked in Spanish through a bullhorn. “The water is coming!”  Vasquez and his wife, undocumented Indigenous Mexican immigrants who speak […]

Remember all those articles last year about how solar prices were going up and how it was proof that solar pricing had bottomed? Yeah...that was wrong. It was just part of all the 2022 madness in everything, and prices are back to 2020 levels and heading downward again.
