Living it up in Jezero Crater with my awesome wife and zany kids. Ex-AWS. Open water swimmer. Opinions my own. No user serviceable parts inside.

OMFG. TIL that domestic violence could be considered a pre-existing condition that could deny you medical coverage (back when that was a thing). https://www.huffpost.com/entry/when-getting-beaten-by-yo_n_286029

I love it when the #NewYorkTimes gets anal about correcting scientific mistakes.

From @brooke_jamieson at Twitter:

If you are heading to #AWS re:Invent please enjoy these phone wallpaper sized maps of the campus! First one is centered, second has room for lockscreen widgets 🥰

At this point, I'm guessing the relaunched version of Twitter Blue will be: You copy an address from a magazine onto an envelope; enclose $8 and a self-addressed stamped return envelope in it; and they'll mail you the Tweets for that month on a 5½" floppy disk?
Er... ah... I guess it's #TechnicallyCorrect...

For those who have access to Bloomberg, Matt Levine's "The Crypto Story" (https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2022-the-crypto-story/) is a well thought-out thesis on the good and bad of cryptocurrency.

I've not been a fan of cryptocurrency because it's largely been a "bad" financial system (per Matt's reasonable definition, see screenshot), but he points out good uses of it, too. They don't get much attention/financing because they're boring and mundane and solve real-world problems instead of being Ponzis.

Oh, so #caturday is a thing here? Here's my lockscreen with Myla and Zealand.

Love chatting with folks about random tech things. Always trying to keep things light here (because heavy stuff is for work).

If I ever come across as being cross/difficult, please excuse my lapse in wordsmithing (though do call me out on it); imagine a "no, that's not right" as being said with a laugh and as a question (", is it?"), like we're having a drink together.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I have spoken.

Oh, is this #introduction on?

I'm typing this as I warm up from a cold open water swim in Puget Sound. I'm a bit crazy like that.

I spent a lot of time at Amazon/AWS, spending the last 8 years helping scientists get more done. Worked a lot with NASA JPL, then spent 2019-2021 there, helping Mars 2020 (lots of fun!).

Now taking some time off to spend time with my wife and inquisitive kids, and figure out what I want to do next.
