@Kytyn @mangouste the term "gun death" being used and not "gun homicide" makes me think a huge part of those are suicides. Suicides are not a good thing, but they are vastly different from homicides in reasons and social implications.
@Jgmeadows @Ricks_Radio @Sundae_Gurl does CPC want to change something in the existing licensing system in CA? Like, giving PAL to random people on the streets?
@Mooster depending on the state, it might be. A tug-of-war between people who want to buy a rocket launcher one day and people who want to ban everything with a barrel, multiplied by a federal nature of USA, results in a very patchy and inconsistent legal framework. Media coverage doesn't help as well - you will hear about one crime instead of a hundred lawful Sunday target shooters, and criminal will most probably have an illegally bought gun on them.
@tiburoncito as with all generalizations, "all guys with rifles are bad" requires you to check each and every one to prove it, and the first check to fail makes the whole generalization false. Without such a proof the whole statement is just bigotry.
@Mooster most probably just unfamiliarity with New York state laws - you are required to have a license to legally buy a new semi-auto rifle (a proper name for that newspeak "assault-style"), while the program seems to be aimed at reducing quantities of illegally owned ones.
@vaskaraeca it's a logical result of common-sense regulations being piled together with bullshit like flash hiders control and silencer prohibitions, all being done on top of a recent mass shooting instead of an average day crime, and the general population knowing about firearms only from movies and video games.
#firearms are spectacular in being a highly debated and politicized topic of which vast majority of people have zero knowledge and zero experience. Combined with public media image that has nothing to do with the real life use, it creates a situation worse than all the #covid virologists we had just recently, with the never-old taste of "you won't be safe otherwise". Meanwhile in #canada healthcare kills 30x more people by mistake annually than all murderes, gun or not...
@stephenfry I suppose they made this conclusion from the fact not a single person from their test group died. Yet.

This was the utterly foreseeable consequence of giving vendors the power to change how their devices worked after they sold it to you, under conditions that criminalized rivals who made products to change them back."
