"Keeping VLC free and without ads is a no-brainer. I know people focus a lot on that part but, for me, it’s just the way it should be and it’s not difficult for me to keep it like that... Sure, more money would be fun, but most of the people I know who have more money are annoying." -- Jean-Baptiste Kempf

Mountain Hare.

Taken a few winters ago during a photography workshop I was running here in the Scottish Highlands.

It was difficult conditions for photography as it would be bright sunshine one minute, then gloomy the next, and we had several very heavy blizzards which made focusing on the hare tricky.

But the hare was clearly well insulated, with fresh snow settling on it and not melting.

I saw a quote, as I do every year, from @neilhimself and then remembered he had expanded on it. These are good thoughts in hard times to take forward into the new year.

🦇 🦇 🦇 #NewPaper out of the Kerth lab led by Carolin Mundinger and Janis Wolf! We artificially heated roosts of wild bats + those in heated roosts grew larger than those in unheated roosts. Increased sizes are likely due to metabolic savings but this is something we are excited to explore further. Results suggest a decoupling of body growth from prey availability and highlights direct mechanism by which climate warming may alter wild animal fitness! Free version here:
