🏳️‍🌈 Pediatrician currently finishing up residency in the Bronx, NY.

I’m a budding 🌱 pediatric environmental health researcher, interested in the health effects of climate change, and how we can communicate with kids, families, and communities around these complex issues.

Also a voracious consumer of books, video games, politics, history, and puzzles.

This is the Bronx River the same year the EPA was founded, a place the city referred to as an "open sewer." This week, three dolphins were found eating fish in the river for the first time in decades. Yeah, environmental protection is actually a great thing.(Camilo Vergara, 1970)

Encouraging findings from survey of mayors from large US #cities about local #ClimateAction.

They correctly identify #BuildingCodes and #zoning as 2 of the most potent levers under their control!

They were excited about solar and EVs, however they were worried about backlash for banning gas stoves or making driving more expensive. We have to keep changing the politics here.

Mayors want to fight climate change, but fear losing their jobs

Steps like banning leaf blowers or gas stoves are seen as potent, but political poison.

The #EPA recently announced $100 million in #climatechange #climateadapation funding for communities to address longstanding #environmentaljustice concerns.

I'm particularly excited about the EJCPS Cooperative Agreement Program which aims to provide grants to develop solutions for environmental and public health issues in local communities.

Can't wait to see what the future of #climateaction and #climatejustice looks like in the #Bronx #NYC #NYS!

No one talks about #utilities and what a monopoly they are. They are free to charge people outrageous amounts while they enrich shareholders. They don't get paid to do maintenance so they let their infrastructure crumble. They have enormous influence in state legislatures because they contribute so much to political campaigns. They are a failing system whose infrastricture won't withstand #climatechange The commissions that were formed to regulate them are controlled by them. It must change.

Enjoyed reading about more #climateaction being taken in #NYS in 2023:

Hochul Calls for 'Cap and Invest' to Slash Emissions

New York's version of cap and trade is winning over skeptics. Will the harmony last when it’s time to hammer out the details?
