PhD Candidate in Learning & Mind Sciences; MA Student in Community Mental Health. Participatory sense-making, socially engaged pedagogy, embodied learning, tinkering, and creative play. When I’m not online you can probably find me in the garden or hanging out with Luka (cat) and Hazel (dog). Exploring ways to create sustainable community spaces and practices, online and in my Berkeley neighborhood. Getting ready to migrate my account to sfba.social.

I’m looking for a new opportunity! Reaching out to this community in the hopes of finding a good fit. I’ve long been in sysadmin, DevOps, and infrastructure engineering roles, with leanings towards security and collaboration. And for a potential shift, I’m open to roles in org supporting IT spaces.

I’m most excited to put my energy towards mission-driven, sustainable, or public good endeavors. Remote is ideal, but I'm in the SF Bay Area. Feel free to reach out! Please boost for reach.

“If I have one message to give to the secular American people, it’s that the world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly.

The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.” ― Marjane Satrapi

Yesterday I listened to a random podcast and they said that you have to two things to deal with stress:

1. Deal with the source of the stress (do the task, solve the problem, settle the conflict, etc.)

2. Deal with the symptoms of the stress (rest, go for a walk, play video game, etc.)

I may not be smart but this has literally completely changed the way I used to think about stress. I thought you just have to do 1. and then you don't have a reason to be stressed anymore

The antidote to materialism isn't minimalism; it's maintenance. Keep things. Fix them. Mend them. Grow old with possessions you know well because you've cared for them.

One of the hardest parts of chronic illness is that you can do everything “right” & still have a setback.

You can rest, eat healthy, manage stress & take all your meds & still have a horrible flare.

The loss of control is painful, and a big part of why folks are afraid of people with disabilities

The non disabled need to believe that they can “healthy living” or “try harder” their way out of disability.

That they’re the exception. That we have failed because we didn’t really “want” to get better.

They can’t fathom that sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do, you still get sicker

Another U.S. civil society coalition forms and speaks; 200 U.S. university and college presidents issued this statement today. https://www.aacu.org/newsroom/a-call-for-constructive-engagement

The way "AI" systems are presented as "social companions to fight loneliness" is very similar in how "AI" is supposed to help teaching: Both are founded in a massive misunderstanding of the social dynamics techies try to replace.

You friend isn't just a thing to send you text, they're not a service. Being taught also ins't a mere service, it's a transformative experience that changes you and your teacher.
