I have three one-month gift subscriptions for David Farrier's Webworm substack to give away. If you want to try him before you buy him*, hit me up.

*To clarify, I mean his excellent columns. David is not a prostitute.

I'm wondering if I should set up my own Mastodon instance so I can dodge all the instances blocking other instances nonsense.

Do I know anyone who's done that? How'd it go? :)

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.
It's humbling to think the power to yay or nay these books rests with me. At the same time, I'm wondering if manuscripts like the second one is why some agents and acquisitions editors become so cynical and jaded in the business.

I caught a glimpse of the world of a literary agent these past few weeks. I received a couple manuscripts to evaluate to help a friend who's in the business.

The first one blew me away. The prose! The plot twists! The narrative voice!

I'm reading the second one now and, uh. I can see the same mistakes I used to make as a newbie novelist, with the added veneer of "American writes about Europe, but it's actually America in a trench coat".

Mastodon is like walking into a cute little cafe in Paris, ordering a cappuccino and a Pain au chocolat sitting down, reading the news paper and asking your fellow patrons how their day is going, to the sound of smooth jazz.

Twitter is like walking into a Starbucks, having to shout your order, then getting your drink pumped full of sugar, while Karen complains her name is spelled with a C, not a K and everyone is talking so loud you have no idea if there even is any music playing.

Not sure who needs to hear this today but when you edit an image on here it allows you to choose which area of the image to focus on

An additional way Mastodon is a bit of a challenge involves the resurrection of Orange Rasputin.

Not every post here needs to be about Orange Rasputin, Apartheid Molerat, or the miseries of the world.

Bad things will continue to exist in this world. Not all of them need signal boosts once someone escapes from Eden.

A lot of the extant blue checkmarks over here are forgetting that we don’t have to bring our doomscrolling habits with us to this Brave New World.

Someone asked us earlier today how many of our Mastodon followers were established users vs newcomers. We weren't sure so...

Let's do a wildly unscientific survey!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON MASTODON?
