@bettybarcode.bsky.social imagine if we told people they had to clear the road. And if one out of every 10 doesn't, oh well, road is impassable until the thaw

@olap @thomas_liekens @rugby I think pools are necessary to address the number of games. They cannot go to 7 games.

So this year it would be:
France, England, Italy, Georgia
Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Portugal

Is it the end of the world if Ireland and England don't play every year if it means growing the game? Portugal/Spain/Georgia need these opportunities. The WC will be so much better with 16 competitive teams

@thomas_liekens @rugby
8 nations with two pools, drawn randomly. Play three game round robin, then do a mini tournament with winner of 1 v 2nd of 2 and vice versa, then a championship game .

Do the same for the "Shield", but overall last place drops to Rugby Europe and winner of RE comes up.

Still 5 games, but Portugal and Georgia get involved

@Chl0333Z @CdnCurmudgeon Toronto Star owner is Canadian, based in Toronto. La Presse is a non-profit. TVA and the Le Journal chain owned by Québecor. So not "all". Québec gets some different viewpoints
@grivettcarnac I am not sure you can target an individual company with tariffs (in fact I am sure you cannot).
@ottaross I wasn't ready for that sharp tang as I cooked the kidneys, even after soaking them in milk
@ottaross ??? I didn't know there was a pub there.
And you probably would have been in the minority that would like my Christmas treat for my father in law. Steak and kidney pie. He has been wanting it for years. Hard to find fresh kidneys.
@stephanie @chrisbegley my condolences to you when you eventually finish it and there is no more of it to read.
@svarogbg1 this was ludicrous. Son would have been one-on-one
@casseagull Strange favourites list this year, but heavily historical fiction dominated. Twilight Territory and Demon Copperfield the two best books I read. Other faves: Shanghai (a spy-ish thriller in post-war China), Our Woman in Moscow (another spy-ish book), The Devil Makes Three (well told story in Haiti), Julia (a retelling of 1984 from Julia's POV), Station Eleven (a 2011 post pandemic apocalyptic book),
