We desperately need it to communicate effectively, build on each others ideas, and add crucial context to posts. These are things replies simply do not accomplish. Also quote posting or reblogging does not = harassment! Tumblr, for instance, has had the feature since the beginning. We need it here now too 🙏🏻

- Mass infection didn't give us herd immunity, it left millions dead/disabled globally
- Masks and stay-at-home orders reduced spread
- Schools were transmission hubs
- Kids have died/gotten long COVID

@futurebird yeah, I can definitely see that as hard to parse. I used to be involved in DIY music and worked in graphic art, now I’m a PhD student and installation artist and disability advocate. I’m in touch with very different communities that are spread all over so if I’m sharing a journal article about Long COVID, I add personal context; same if I’m sharing a colleague’s record launch.
@erincandescent @ankaracode @mekkaokereke not that I represent Canada in anyway, but I’ve always used the quote feature on FB or Twitter to signal boost things I find interesting and add context why. The idea that QT where ‘toxic’ is totally new to me, I’ve only encountered it since joining Mastodon. It seem like a really bad faith lense, but I mostly interact with writers, artists and musicians who are always boosting each other.
