Auspicious start to my trip. My seat mate had the Lonely Planet book I wrote!
Dream that summed up my 2022: Vincent Price had scheduled a time to come over to gouge my eyes out but I was so busy I forgot and had to improvise by jumping of a sketchy ledge to escape when I heard him break down the door.
My 2023 goals.
I just got offered to write a 245 page guidebook for £3000 (not Lonely Planet) this morning. Why would anyone take this? I mean I know why: exposure, foot in the door, who knows. But it’s insulting.
Tourism in Tahiti is going bonkers unlike anything I’ve seen there in the last 30 years. All the hotels are full and more airlines are scheduling flights. The country needs it now, but I hope it will slow down before things get out of hand. https://www.radio1.pf/arrivee-de-delta-papeete-interconnectee-a-une-vingtaine-de-villes-americaines/?fbclid=IwAR2ZxVdbq8iU-JiT8wqiad7P-4x8fol8XqaXY3b1THDGmFlhINk8HgJcdRs&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.

If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction

Space Karen Sucks

Free speech really should be free. To bypass the new censorship regime at twitter, use this URL shortener to link to Mastodon or other censored destinations. Considering recent policy decisions on twitter, please be aware that use of links generated from this site may constitute a violation of their policy.

I just realized that aside from my husband, I have no family members and almost no close friends here on Mastadon, so it’s like old times on Twitter where it’s a safe venting space 😂
Hey new Mastadon friends! I need book gift ideas for my 73 year old dad. He likes non-fiction adventure (he loved all the Carl Hoffman books I’ve bought him), sailing and ocean stories, he’s very liberal, into spiritual/ psychology self-help, likes weird quirky stuff.
12 days till I go to Tahiti for 3 months (for work). Last year my time there started with Covid, then my dog died unexpectedly, a 6 inch stake went through my foot, it got infected, I almost died from a sudden penicillin allergy, had to have foot surgery and cancel many plans and it rained non-stop for weeks. Came back to the US and more blech happened. So I’m hoping I got all the bad shit out of the system and this will be a re-boot. A Tahiti re-boot. Or better, re-flip-flop.
Epiphany after a week of too much work: I’m happy learning and creating, miserable managing and selling. There are people out there who truly enjoy those last two things, right? Or is it just because that’s where the money is? Seems impossible to make a living without doing mostly that.
