Progress! Jetson Orin Nano controls pan, tilt, barrel rotation, and firing. Camera feeds into nanoowl pipeline (https://github.com/NVIDIA-AI-IOT/nanoowl) for object detection. Python script accepts name of target object, scans until detected, tracks and gently pelts with nerf. Much kid LOLing.
Building with an AIO cooler and a battery of fans has become ridiculously easy since I last put a PC together. No more nest of tiny wires; fans, radiator, etc are daisy-chained with a single cable to a hub. A nice surprise.
