Dear The Algorithm,
I am 36 years old, I have no interest in #coachella
Hope that helps,

Mother in law asking after the 5yo's "size" and doesn't seem to be happy with his age, or protestations that it depends on the garment.

The 5yo is now yelling "one hundred and fifty five" over the attempts to reason with her (over the phone). I think he just got through to her. God knows whats coming to us in the mail.

It is beyond ridiculous that I am essentially taxed for having friends and family outside the #EU who want to send me gifts. Not just in money but in time and effort.

A friend wants to send me a box of #tea and some baskets to make it with. I have to fill in a form that requires me to know how much these items cost, what they are made of, how many they are, how much the shipping was. I also have to collect it from the post office.

The zip line at the playground is fascinating to watch. The kids all wait in line and bring the seat back for the next turn. I doubt all these kids are great at sharing all the time (our little one is not especially more altruistic than average, I think it's fair to say). But the benefits of altruism are really clear here. The only bad behaviour I've witnessed is a parent pushing in (admittedly with a much younger child in tow, but still should have waited their turn, as everyone else does)

Twelve years ago, I started using the phrase "recursive remediation" to refer to the bizarre effect that hypertrophied assessment has on pedagogy.

It begins by saying "Our students will never [X]; they can't even [Y]!" where X is some mature intellectual task and Y is e.g., spelling their own name, writing a complete sentence, reading a news article.

"They'll never understand Moby-Dick; they can't even read the syllabus!"
"They'll never write a legal brief; they can't write an email!" 1/7

🎶 "We need this for our young people and for our society."

Tonight my gf and I are taking the #nighttrain from Prague to Zurich, and then on to Paris! We used the guide at seat61.com to plan it (thanks @seatsixtyone ) and our return journey which will take one travel day through Munich. We basically have to fly once a year to visit my parents (we tried taking the train last Christmas but it's just too hard to book everything over the timetable gap) so we're trying to take the #train as much as possible! #rail
I needed a new winter jacket and decided to buy one now and take advantage of a sale. It arrived and it's pretty great, but now I feel like a kid who got a new toy but can't play with it yet...
My favourite #subreddit is r/bass and I'm interested in whether anyone has discussed moving to the #fediverse (r/bass doesn't seem to show up in those lists of subreddits, but maybe some small subset are interested in setting something up) but trying to search #bass #lemmy won't work for obvious reasons!
