Husband was at his parents’ dog sitting and some youths were having a party in the woods. He called me because he was like “why is there loud music playing? Who’s out there? What do they want?” And so I reassured him if they were there to kill him they’d make sure he never heard them coming.

I can't remember whether I ever told the end of the story about getting AT&T service in the forest, but: after AT&T refused to provide phone service, I contacted the California Public Utilities Commission and filed a complaint, got a call back from someone very helpful who conference called me into the AT&T Office of the President, and a very helpful rep got things sorted and I now have working phone service out there.
