They also couldn’t price it at a loss because it would almost certainly sink their chances in that anti-trust suit in Europe. Valve’s hands were pretty much tied with regard to pricing no matter what, either because of the trial or the pitiful state of the consumer hardware industry.
I was never the target audience for this but I paid roughly $1200 for 2080 performance in 2019.
I’m not doing the same for 2070 performance in 2026.
I’m very glad that it exists though.
Consumer hardware industry is just totally jacked.
Seems like the Steam Machine is incredibly underpowered for a “gaming desktop” type of machine.
It wouldn’t be anything I’d want to run and I’m not entirely sure I couldn’t build something at least a bit more powerful for the same money using Bazzite.
Ok FediFetcher is now churning away. I added back in some of the relays I was using before too. Also added some block lists. Would like to sit on this config for a bit and see how it goes. Hardware doesn't seem to be stressing.
Ton of progress today on the repos for all this self hosting stuff I'm working on.
My hope is to provide some grab and go projects for pushing some of these platforms out on DigitalOcean but should be totally adaptable for any deployment target.
I'm just going to have terraform for DO included since that's the cloud provider I use.
I'm planning to include Linkstack, Ghost, Joplin, Mastodon, Pixelfed, and maybe Reactive Resume.
No way the company that worked on the reflecting pool was literally called Greenwater Services. I can’t…🤣
