Ex-Londoner who moved to San Francisco and is still getting used to it
I would say this is pretty charted territory:

Musk says he'll spend about $180 million to elect Trump.

They are the nation's two most powerful enemies of democracy (though Musk has some competition for second place) and, by extension, freedom of expression.

Everyone who buys a Tesla is supporting them.

Everyone who uses the deadbird site -- notably the journalists, who all know what they're doing -- is supporting them.

Don't pretend otherwise.

In group chats with "[user] is typing" notifications, I often type messages out elsewhere then paste and send, so that I can agonise over the phrasing in private.
But I also don't want it to be obvious what I'm doing, so I always leave an interval between the paste and the send. Others would then assume I typed the message out like a normal person.
Just now I was doing this and wondered if this is a common thing and, if so, if there was a word for it?
Recently finished "Always Coming Home" by Ursula LeGuin. Surprised I hadn't read it sooner, probably the most thoroughly conceived exploration of a speculative future culture I've ever come across. Of the many possible outcomes that current human civilisation faces, the world inhabited by the Kesh is far from the worst
If the Twitter/X thing teaches you one thing, let it be this: Twitter was a neoliberal place. Then Elon Musk made it into X, a fascist place. Once again, neoliberalism laid the foundations of fascism. But that’s not the (whole) lesson… Neoliberal folks are still using X, calling it Twitter to make themselves feel better, and pining for the good old days. And there’s the real lesson: When neoliberalism turns into fascism, neoliberals will adapt to life under fascism. Right, class dismissed.
It’s been a while since I’ve been so moved by a statement from a leader. Just burst into tears on BART reading this. https://twitter.com/POTUS/status/1768356426336866602 https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/03/14/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-nex-benedict/
President Biden (@POTUS) on X

In memory of Nex, we must all recommit to our work to end discrimination and address the suicide crisis impacting too many nonbinary and transgender children.

I'm so sad to read about the death of Julia Elkin, who was struck by a driver while jogging in the Berkeley hills. This should never have happened. Condolences to Julia's family and friends. https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2024/02/27/traffic-safety/berkeley-resident-julia-elkin-traffic-fatality/ #Berkeley
Julia Elkin, struck by driver in Berkeley, died Monday night

Elkin had a "deep passion for making our human and natural communities more resilient to climate change." She was just 37 years old.

If I'm ever in space and experience a depressurisation event, I hope I have the presence of mind to wryly mutter "This sucks" before being yanked out into the unforgiving void
Just replying to this to say I actually really liked the Wonka movie, and think that Olivia Coleman deserved an Oscar for her delivery of the word "boring"
Here's a picture of a Pomeranian that I drew. I don't usually draw animals but I thought this one turned out OK. It was a good excuse to use the last two new Copic markers I bought
