Congressman, and constitutional scholar, Jamie Raskin

“Section 3 of the 14th Amendment presents a clear and unequivocal statement that anyone who has sworn an oath of office…who engage in insurrection or rebellion…can never serve again in federal or state office”

Here’s hoping the constitution still matters.

Judge Chutkan: "Setting a trial date should not depend on a person's professional obligations. Mr Trump will have to make this work.. regardless of his schedule"

The BBC's experiment with Mastodon is pathbreaking in English-language news -- a major organization setting up its own instance. They've really thought this through. Key language:

"We're using social.bbc as the domain, so you can be sure these accounts are genuinely from the BBC. And by linking to and from the BBC’s website, we have verified our identity on Mastodon."

The BBC on Mastodon: experimenting with distributed and decentralised social media

Trialling ActivityPub and the federated model for social media and it's possibilities for the BBC.

BBC R&D
Following the German @ZDF and @tagesschau, the BBC is giving Mastodon a go through their own server. You can now follow the official @BBCRadio4 and a few other accounts on social.bbc!

I hope that Mastodon folks who like to scold newcomers will realize how off-putting -- and damaging -- that behavior is.

Please be helpful, not scornful. Let's reduce the genuine risk of poisoning fediverse growth, and thereby giving social-media oligarchs indefinite control over online discourse.

Having said that, Mastodon/fediverse could/should do more to make users' experiences more gratifying.

@godlessmom I recommend "Eifelheim" by Michael F. Flynn. It is primarily a story of alien first contact during the Black Plague in medieval Germany. It is fascinating and tragic and a great read. Religion is involved, due to the time period, but I didn't mind because it makes sense in the story. In some parts of the book you understand the aliens more than you understand the humans! There is a small framing around the story, though, that takes place in the modern day which isn't as good.
@thomasfuchs I feel like I'm back in high school every time I see people using words they don't understand

Trump just “ReTruthed” a meme saying J6 was staged by the government

Trump was in power during J6

Is this an admission of guilt or is he the dumbest president of all time or…?

“It sure is funny that the CEO of a business based on serving ads to an audience that is 99.8% non-subscribers is saying that any metrics including those numbers are untrustworthy and shouldn’t be counted! Wonder how the advertisers feel about this!” https://www.zenofdesign.com/in-which-elon-pays-people-to-be-his-friend/
