@Llosgi People's ideas on how things work are entrenched from a very early age. If capitalism is all they know, it's very hard to imagine any alternative. Especially if it's coming in some ad-hoc way from a stranger.

Also, people are used to donating and sharing. The money they leave is a token of thanks and appreciation. They want to support you.

If you've called yourself a "refugee" because you clicked a few buttons to move from one social network online to an other, not only is that extremely poor taste, you should donate to Refugee Action and sign up to their newsletter:

@timinclimate Hi, thanks for this awesome list of people to follow. I'm not sure who qualifies to be on it but I'm keen to connect with anyone involved in climate activism esp. in Australia.

HELP NEEDED: Please help me help everyone find Australian #climate and #energy advocates, communicators and educators on this hairy elephant app.

Can you please

1. Boost this post (boosting is just the mastodon name for a retweet)?
2. Reply with the full @username@server
handle for everyone you know who fits that category?

This way lots of people can add to the list, so I can get a reasonably full one. As ever in this space, it'd be great to avoid the list being all white men so if you can turn your mind to that, it'd be wonderful.

Like Santa, I'm making a list and checking it twice. I'll also make it public.

@stukhan All water is recycled. Our planet has finite resources. Water doesn't come from outer space.
@lauragreen @Constababble
Take them to a puppet show / the zoo or some other special experience.
Or buy them things they really need (clothes, school supplies or sports equipment)

@Constababble

As much as I love this idea, people do get joy out of giving.

So, here's 3 alternatives to nothing:

- Give a handmade gift. If you're not particularly creative, grow a small plant, fix something or watch some online videos on how to cook/sew/create something)

- Give an experience (think yoga / language / art class, tickets to a game or concert, massage etc.)

- Make a personalised card with drawings / pressed flowers / photos and write in it a story about something you've shared or done with that person.

You can celebrate occasions with sharing, without buying a lot of STUFF.

@mike Hi, could you please explain whether I need to be on more than one server (instance) or not. In what circumstance would that be useful? And if it is, how do you do it ?

@Authenticdmckee I see you're in the UK, where there are many cohousing communities.
https://cohousing.org.uk/members-directory/

Ofc most probably wouldn't identify as anarchist but if they are an intentional community with members actively participating in the design and management of their own community without a 'leader', then they are living by anarchist principles, no ?

Food co-ops are also another good example of people self-organising. There are many examples out there. Maybe set a challenge for your students to find some ?
