This #ReceptioGate article is interesting because it considers wider issues for scholars, research, and academia: https://thecritic.co.uk/receptiogate-and-the-absolute-state-of-academia/
#ReceptioGate and the (absolute) state of academia | Charlotte Gauthier | The Critic Magazine

Forget the Christmas panto — the most hilariously bizarre show in town this holiday season has got to be #ReceptioGate. Our story begins with Peter Kidd, a researcher specialising in medieval…

Came across this unusual layout today: a manuscript with 6 columns, while 2-3 is the norm. Like here, such books heavy on columns usually contain word lists, dictionaries, or concordances - so: short lines.

There is ample marginal space still, the scribe did not even sweat it. Equally unusual are the dimensions: 255 mm tall, much, much smaller than the norm.

e-codices – Virtual Manuscript Library of Switzerland

The goal of e-codices is to provide free access to all medieval and a selection of modern manuscripts of Switzerland by means of a virtual library. On the e-codices site, complete digital reproductions of the manuscripts are linked with corresponding scholarly descriptions.

PUblic REnaissance: Urban Cultures of Public Space between Early Modern Europe and the Present is a three-year project funded by the Humanities in European Research Area (HERA), involving researchers from universities in Italy, Germany the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. Our aim is to examine how public spaces, from street-corners to major city squares, were shaped by the everyday activities of ordinary city-dwellers between 1450 and 1700.

Waste not, want not! Rescued from the binding of a book, this recycled fragment of a #medieval #manuscript was split down the middle, then mended with stitches in bright white thread—a beautiful contrast with the scruffy #parchment and faded ink. #Manuscripts #MedievalManuscripts #Fragmentology #Repairs @bookhistodons @medievodons @bsbmuenchen
A bit of an #introduction. I work at Stanford where I research #medieval literature, #manuscripts, #archivalstudies, and #digitalhumanities. My most recent book is “Perceptions of Medieval Manuscripts” (OUP, ‘21) and I’m now doing a revised edition of Ker’s Catalogue of Manuscripts, and a new Intro to MS Studies. Oh, and #churches, #cats, and #cymru forever!
I am so stoked! There is a game called Pentiment centered on manuscripts and early printed books, it is gorgeous, and @book_historia is streaming it on Twitch right now! https://www.twitch.tv/book_historia
Do digital books last longer than physical books? @brewsterkahle highlights the lengths libraries go through to keep digital books viable: they “need constant maintenance—reprocessing, reformatting, re-invigorating or they will not be readable or read.” http://blog.archive.org/2022/11/15/digital-books-wear-out-faster-than-physical-books/
Digital Books wear out faster than Physical Books - Internet Archive Blogs

Ever try to read a physical book passed down in your family from 100 years ago?  Probably worked well. Ever try reading an ebook you paid for 10 years ago?   Probably a different experience. From the leasing business model of mega publishers to physical device evolution to format obsolescence, digital books are fragile and […]

We're all gonna need this sooner than expected so here is my proposed APA 7 style citation format for citing a Mastodon post

Lastname, F.M. [@[email protected]] (20XX, Month DD). Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut ... [Mastodon post]. Name of instance. [URL of post]

As with the format for citing a Twitter post, the correct reference list title is the first 20 words of the post, and the correct short title is the first 5, both using an ellipsis if necessary.
