Out with the broken, root infested and frequently clogged sewage outflow pipe and in with the new!
Luckily it's not an emergency, $8300, and my house should be back online by evening. I just hope the digging doesn't kill our 60 year old trees!

The Morning Run to Breakfast With Cyclists

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Yesterday I dropped off my bike for a service. I noticed that the rear wheel no longer seemed to be true so I took it to a bike shop. They confirmed that some of the bike spokes were about to fail. Due to this technical issue I left my bike with them for maintenance. Now I find myself without a bike.

Finding myself without a bike means that when a group meets for a ride at 07:00 for a ride I can’t join, because I don’t have a bike. The advantage I had though, is that I could still get up early, and go for a solo run, and time it to end at the same time as the others got back from their ride.

I decided to do the run recommended by Runna. Six 300s. Six times 300m at 5:30 following by runs at 06:15 before recovery, and then running for another kilometre and a half.

I ran a route that I estimated would get me back to the café right when they arrived, and I succeeded perfectly. By 0800 I was at the café and within three minutes I arrived.

I came up with the plan yesterday, when I was on my afternoon walk before the book discussion. I decided that I would wake early, run, and meet the group. Eventually I questioned whether I would actually get up.

If we think linearly then not having a bike would exclude me from joining. Lateral thinking allowed me to join. The experience was good. I will repeat it.
