Maybe you’ve heard: every font is free! Since fonts aren’t subject to copyright, you can legally ‘pirate’ them if you use a specific loophole!

...except that’s not really true. I’ve seen this claim repeated quite a lot recently, and it’s missing some pretty important nuance.

I just attended an type conference (ATypI) where the theme was supposed to be connected to AI and I didn’t see one presentation with something like “then we tried using AI and it made a better result.”Instead they were all like “then we tried using AI and the result was broken, we tried again and again+ with diminishing returns and found it wasn’t worth the trouble”

I didn’t see every talk so I asked others and I heard the same thing. I’m not saying it’s not possible but I haven’t seen it yet

Looking forward to visiting Copenhagen this week for the ATypI conference. Anyone else going?

"The economic turmoil and uncertainty makes the prospect of buying a new device, especially an already pricey smartphone, laptop, or gaming console, seem like it’s going to become a lot more expensive. And if buying something new becomes harder and harder, it makes more sense to keep what you already have going strong."
