We are delighted to announce that the joint winners of our 2022 paper prize are Kathleen Scheffler, Federica Giannini and Tom Lemonnier from the @binyam lab, for their paper entitled ‘The prophase oocyte nucleus is a homeostatic G-actin buffer’

prophase oocyte nucleus is a homeostatic G-actin buffer

Summary: We demonstrate the existence of endogenous nuclear actin filaments in healthy mammalian oocytes, and that these F-actin structures deteriorate with advancing reproductive age.

Check out this year’s Boston Area Mitosis & Meiosis (BAMM!) meeting @KabecheLab (Yale), Dan Needleman (Harvard) and I are organizing. Please spread the word and register for a day of exciting cell division biology on May 6, 2023 at Yale. https://bamm-meeting.com/

Ever try to #drug an #oncoprotein only to have the #tumor lose its dependency on it and become drug resistant? Introducing #RIPTACs (Regulated Induced Proximity Targeting Chimeras) in collaboration with #Halda Therapeutics. RIPTACs selectively kill cells by differentially accumulating an antiproliferative agent via an induced Protein:Protein Interaction (#PPI) to a differentially expressed protein. Importantly, target protein function is not needed for RIPTAC action.

#Introduction

I'm a professor at a public university, cell biologist and geneticist who studies chromosome segregation in C. elegans during both development (mitosis) and sexual reproduction (meiosis).

I am also a passionate and committed advocate for equity in academic science

I enjoy my work, in all its forms, food (eating and cooking) and cocktails (in all its forms, but particularly the brown varieties 🥃 ).

What up, y'all?

So the penultimate day of #CellBio2022 was pretty full-on. Started with a terrific talk from Don Cleveland as the recipient of the E.B. Wilson Prize. He did a split talk between neurodegenerative disease therapies and chromothripsis in cancer. Then it was a melee of talks, posters and catching up with @binyam and @jorgeferreira in the hubbub of the main hall. I got a ton of new ideas and tips for our work.
Come and egg us on at @ASCBiology #CellBio2022 as @sabrinaghd @Sam__Dunkley and Federica present their posters on cytoskeletal dynamics and chromosome segregation in eggs. #meiosis
@crews Thanks Craig! Putting your Mstdn handle on Twitter was a great idea! Helped me find you fast.
