@WarnerCrocker the guy giving the order is immune, the guy executing the order is still liable to prosecution. A thoughtful general officer would bring a lawyer and a sidearm to a meeting he was concerned about. The lawyer to tell him whether he’s legally exposed and the sidearm in case after he said no it was illegal the guy asked somebody else to do it making him an accessory.
@RickiTarr I’ve been consumed by it for a while, but it’s like model trains, the response by everybody else when they see your layout is wow followed by why. Most lives will not change and then somebody else from the other party will get elected. It doesn’t make me any less sad.
@Acronymesis we owe our allegiance to an idea. I comfort myself by thinking that things haven’t gotten better at all for the bottom half of us and until it does we’ll keep throwing out the current set of bums
@johnlogic if you want good oats you pay good money, if you’re willing to settle for oats that have been through the horse first, you can find a bargain
@billyjoebowers I think she took the wind out of the “too liberal” sails when she said, “I know Donald trump’s type”
@georgetakei decisions are not required so long as there’s room. Clothes you don’t wear anymore migrate to the back of the closet or bottom of the drawer
@dramypsyd no worries, you can fire and hire just by thinking about it
@glennf we have an endless appetite for “them”. That said, I thought this was a big joke but I was out walking with a nice guy and he asked me what I thought about transsexuals. I said what people want to do and who they want to do it with is up to them, it’s none of my business. It wasn’t the answer he was hoping for and he was genuinely concerned about “them” in our government.
@georgetakei I loved the logic; since in 1789 18 was adult, that’s what we’re going with. Even though I’m not an historian, I am a judge, so I must be right. The idea is that rulings should be based on something and not some arbitrary exercise of sentiment. The reality is an arbitrary exercise of sentiment sprinkled with historical sounding statements
@rbreich the danger seems to be around a few groups getting out in front and fixing things so it stays that way. I’m thinking Haiti. Louisiana from before Huey long for instance, big oil, big farmers, happy times for both. Long built roads, schools, and hospitals, not leveling the playing field, but widening the gates, at least for a while.
