Singling out a group of people and claiming they don't exist is called genocide. In the U.S., it's called “Republican-led legislation.” To many behind the times who think there are suddenly more trans people, it's rather that trans people have more visibility. For the first time (in our culture) people with a gender expression that doesn't fit their bodies feel *juuuuuuust* comfortable enough saying so. This terrifies people who are *uncomfortable with anything that challenges the status quo.*
Historically and in non-US/European cultures, gender hasn’t had the strong red lines that conservatives insist were always there. Beware those who claim the past is proof for prejudice and who cite history without any citations. It's just like claiming marriage was always between one man and one woman.
@glennf That “always” oddly enough ignores even the contents of the Bible.
@michaelgemar That book was recently banned from a library for all its mishegos!
@glennf Yep. It’s a very naughty book.
@glennf we have an endless appetite for “them”. That said, I thought this was a big joke but I was out walking with a nice guy and he asked me what I thought about transsexuals. I said what people want to do and who they want to do it with is up to them, it’s none of my business. It wasn’t the answer he was hoping for and he was genuinely concerned about “them” in our government.
