I got my own #Debian version couple of days ago. I used preseed.conf for Debian installer — great functionality with quite good documentation. I started with abdolutely minimalistic configuration, just to know how it works. Now I'm choosing DM, WM & other stuff to prepare workable distro.
I'd passed through lots of disro making methods (like manual with chroot or automatic with Debos) but finally I chose to take netinst.iso & tune it with preseed because this is very comfortable style.

Like this wm alot! Everything is on #python even the config file. Worx fast and smooth just from-a-box. Gotta add some needfull stuff like screenshot maker, desktop wallpaper and so on & then It'll be very comfortable place.

i3wm вполне можно пользоваться вместо десктопа, но очень сильно нужно подсказка с раскладкой комбинаций клавиш, причем где-то в максимально близком доступе типа alt+?, а ещё лучше — в автостарте.

Ещё лучше — засунуть в автостарт мой терминальный лаунчер drydock.

Но я пока подожду результатов тестирования QTile.

Любопытно, что i3wm оказался почему-то гораздо быстрее, чем Реголит на моей свежей Трикси. Возможно, все эти тормоза просто из-за версии testing и надо просто подождать релиза...
Но дело такое, что можно и не ждать, а просто добавить нужных приложение, вроде arandr, и настроить i3.
