Cat and chicken herder, granola-makin' Berkeley mom, and ringleader at ProjectKin. We're a community of family historians hooked on stories. Photos turn out to be a great way to reconnect and share old stories. I was also a co-founder at the now-offline Ponga.com.

You'll find me #familyhistory, #storytelling, #genealogy, #oldphotos, and welcoming newbies from the #twittermigration.

I have just been requested to commute three days a week 135 miles away each way from my home (I have not moved) to an office I was never required to attend before the pandemic starting end of September.

Wow, Fascinating, @jahboeren thank you for raising the question, this sent me down a rabbit hole exploring this terrific academic research.

Hey Daniel, @thedanielsgenealogy No, while I follow many #Substack sites, I don't have one of my own. BUT if it's a "private podcast" you're looking to produce...

1. It's a worthy challenge and I'd love to know how you solve it and why. I know my community would be interested! (I have a talk on digital Privacy Aug-3. See: sendfox.com/lp/1yn05e)

2. Have you considered using SoundCloud? They're suited to podcasting and give you flexibility on the RSS feed. A thought. 🤔

Question. For people who use #Substack — can you make a private podcast?

So twitter decided to send a threatening letter to an organisation who were researching hate speech on twitter.

They fired back with a beautiful letter on their own.

I'm sure twitter isn't going through with their threat, but I kinda hope they will. The discovery will be gorgeous. https://counterhate.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Letter-to-A.-Spiro-from-R.-Kaplan-re-CCDH.pdf

To keep your #Genealogy & #FamilyHistory data safe, back up regularly and share what you know with family (and beyond if you wish). Remember: LOCKSS (lots of copies keep stuff safe). https://climbingmyfamilytree.blogspot.com/2023/08/backup-day-lockss-and-paperless.html

Isaac Asimov on How Libraries Can Radically Change Your Life (1971)

Back in 1971, Isaac Asimov sent a letter to celebrate the opening of a new library in Troy, Michigan. Thoughtful as always, his letter addressed the children of the Troy community as follows: 'Congratulations on the new library, because it isn't just a library.

Hey Rich, another thought:

These images form a tapestry of your shared family history.
To respect that, think like a museum and separate the archive and access functions from curation and storytelling.

Google, Apple, or similar site is fine to archive and share access. Ponga builds on that to give you and your siblings a private space where you can sort through the faces and names, and tell stories of your shared past.

(See Ponga.com/scan too 😉.)
