So twitter decided to send a threatening letter to an organisation who were researching hate speech on twitter.

They fired back with a beautiful letter on their own.

I'm sure twitter isn't going through with their threat, but I kinda hope they will. The discovery will be gorgeous. https://counterhate.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Letter-to-A.-Spiro-from-R.-Kaplan-re-CCDH.pdf

@loke Fascists like Elon Musk must be thwarted at every turn.
@loke That letter is the most beautiful "Fuck you, bring it on" legal letter I've read in awhile. I really hope Musk is stupid enough to go through with a lawsuit so that CCDH can get all the dirty laundry.

@timelordiroh @loke

This is why most companies set up binding arbitration as the primary means of recourse for workers. No matter if the company wins or loses the details, the dirty bits, are never public record like a court case.

@loke
Not quite Arkell v Pressdram, but it is more incisive.
For those who don’t know this 1971 classic of English law, here’s the reply.
@loke "Our clients believe that open and transparent public discussion of these issues is essential, and they will not shirk from their responsibilities in the face of Twitter’s efforts to threaten and silence inconvenient facts or viewpoints with which your clients do not agree." Excellent!
@dfroidmont @loke
"Your clients ... are free to pursue litigation if they choose to do so. But they should be mindful of the risks involved in bringing frivolous claims to intimidate thoughtful critics and stifle legitimate commentary on issues of clear public interest.
... Please be advised that CCDH intends to seek immediate discovery regarding hate speech and misinformation on the Twitter platform; Twitter’s policies and practices relating to these issues; and Twitter’s advertising revenue."
@loke Attorney Roberta has written one scorching letter! It’s all true, and I hope they go through with it. Sometimes intelligence and common sense prevail over money, greed and hate. Not always, not even often, but if anyone can do it, sounds like her team fits the bill. 👍🎶✌️
@loke Twitter is a Trojan horse. I'm really hoping the shift away from it starts to accelerate
@loke “We write in response to the ridiculous letter you sent our clients on behalf of X Corp., which operates the Twitter (or the new “X”) platform, dated July 20, 2023” 👏👏👏
@loke
Robbie Kaplan 🎯 🔥
@loke Hats off to a lawyer I’d engage in a heartbeat. Bravo, Roberta A. Kaplan.
@loke I am participating in the one-day Twitter strike today. Not sure how much notice it will receive but I see notifications of multiple new tweets on the hideous X icon. Will check them tomorrow.
@loke they have followed through
@MadisonMonkey thanks. Time for a long running show for the rest of us.

@loke

Even if they do, the red herrings they're likely to throw up will be entertaining for both Ms. Kaplan and anyone following the case.
