Over the last 8 days, we accomplished something extraordinary: we held the first tech-workers strike in the nation, ran one of the first and largest remote pickets in the nation, and pulled off a successful boycott of both NYT Cooking and Games.

We are ready to fight for the contract we deserve, and we are sacrificing our paychecks to do so. Please donate to our strike fund. https://gofund.me/f9e58629

Tell the NY Times to agree to a fair contract with Times Tech!

Times management has slow-walked bargaining and attacked the Tech Guild every step of the way since workers first announced their intent to unionize in 2021. The NewsGuild of New York has filed more than a half dozen Unfair Labor Practice charges against the New York Times at the National Labor Relations Board for unlawful actions including failure to bargain in good faith and unilateral changes to working conditions. On Sept. 10, Times Tech overwhelmingly approved a strike authorization and are ready to do whatever it takes to get the contract they deserve. Tell the Times to stop their anti-union tactics and agree to a fair contract with Times Tech!

Bandcamp United members remain severely affected by the layoffs in October 2023. We are once again asking for support from our community so our comrades are able to weather this difficult time. Thank you, and solidarity forever.

Continued support for laid off Bandcamp workers

On October 16th, 2023, 58 out of Bandcamp’s 118 employees were laid off as a result of Epic Games selling the company to Songtradr, with 40 being unionized workers. Members of our unit are still experiencing the material impact of these layoffs. We’re collecting funds to distribute to laid off BCU members who are still financially affected by these lay-offs. While we did negotiate 9 months of company-paid health insurance, we are now past that point. We are hoping to help people still struggling to make ends meet face this transitional period with security. Our funding target of $7,000 is based on real expenses members of our unit are facing. Any funds raised beyond our goal will be rolled over to additional solidarity fundraising efforts, and reserved for upcoming cost of living expenses. Thank you, and solidarity. Thank you to Luke and Jacobin for this chance to chat through the past year. A union begins with open conversations with your co-workers and there's no better time to start than now. Solidarity forever ✊

Bandcamp’s New Owner Has Gone After the Company’s Unionized Workforce

Bandcamp was meant to be an alternative to the corporate behemoths of music’s streaming age, giving a better deal to independent artists. But the company’s new owner, Songtradr, has suddenly laid off half its workers, putting Bandcamp’s future in jeopardy.

We wanted to share a timeline of the events this year. Bandcamp United was formed by a collective of music lovers, and we are so proud of what we accomplished. We dearly appreciate all the support of our community. Support artists, always. Solidarity forever.

I nearly did a spittake when I got an email notification on my work email titled "Massive union types", only to realize it was talking about TypeScript.

We raised the amount of Epic Games paid health insurance through COBRA, which is paramount for our comrades who need continual healthcare.

We also get to keep our computers, which has been very helpful for comrades who didn’t already have a personal device.

Over multiple bargaining sessions, we fought to make sure that our laid-off unit members would have as much security as possible, especially during the end of the year. We are proud to say that we negotiated a floor for salary that will protect our underpaid comrades in support, editorial, vinyl, and other operations roles. We also negotiated a lump sum bonus for those who are at the bottom of the salary range.
