On the birdsite, likes, retweets, replies, and other "engagement" helps build metrics that can be sold to interested parties. That may give you pause to engage around here, but it's different.
On mastodon, hitting "favorite," and "boost," and also replying to posts, help grow your network, to find more interesting people to read. It takes a little work, but it's very rewarding.
As a happily resolute #linux user since the '90s, I appreciate a good #API. I appreciate simple ones even more, and my new domain registrar, #porkbun, checks both boxes, and also beats all the other major registrars on price. They do such a good job that I not only moved all my domains over, but even re-homed my #DNS controls there from Digital Ocean.
If you're in the market for a new registrar, I can't recommend porkbun enough. Now we just need to get them on #mastodon.
My human name is John. I live in Denver with Alison, our kids Oscar and Wendy, and our dog, whose name I will not reveal, out of respect for her privacy.
I work for a large technology company now, and spend most of my time chasing my kids around. When I get a chance, I try to spend as much time as I can with my family, and divide what time is leftover on #linux #gaming , #beer, #politics, and coming up with pipe dreams for #travel.
When I'm editing, I don't like mouse clicking and selecting in a term window to engage visual mode, so years ago I set this in my .vimrc and in my .config/nvim/init.vim:
set mouse-=a
This worked for a long time, and continues to work in vim, but I recently observed mouse-based selecting started engaging visual mode in neovim. The following update to init.vim will fix it:
set mouse=
Nevada Senate - Cortez Masto(D) by 1,455
Laxalt: 487,437 (-5,617)
Cortez Masto: 488,892 (+2,515)
Movement in Nevada's two most populous counties. Cortez Masto's share in Clark County just went from 51% to 51.5%, and from 48.8% to 50.1% in Washoe County. That was enough to push the Democrat over the line, if this trajectory is maintained. All the remaining ballots are mail-in ballots, so I would be surprised now if Laxalt can pick up the necessary momentum.
