I am a husband, electrical engineer, IT worker, and ham radio operator just trying to live a quiet life on my own terms. Former Coloradan, now living in #NewMexico since April 2025.

I post mostly about
#HamRadio #AmateurRadio and related topics, but any random thing that enters my mind may end up here. I do very occasionally post #USpol but I do not CW them. I do use the hashtag though, so you can filter those out if you don't want to see them.

Anyone have experience with Battery Hookup? They have some fantastic prices for used but still in-spec batteries. I can't help but be a tiny bit skeptical even though I've heard some great things about them.

One of these things is not like the others... (see 2nd pic)

Fun to finally have a reliable setup for measuring ±1 ns PPS (and a solid Rubidium reference) among all my clocks!

Adding another clock every few days... and probably no video on this stuff for months!

@brainofdane Yeah, not much activity here in eastern New Mexico either, unless it's the twice weekly ARES net. The rest of the time it's crickets out here.
@brainofdane And unfortunately I haven't heard it since.
@brainofdane This happened with the FT-991A here at my QTH, with a fair to midland outdoor antenna that's just a few feet off the ground. It's on the same frequency as a local repeater here (Portales, NM) and that's the only reason I happened to hear it. I thought that there was no way it would hear me on the 5 watts I usually use for local QSO's, so I cranked it all the way up to 50 watts and was able to hit it. Then I went down on power in increments and got all the way down to as low as my radio can go, which is 5. I was surprised I could still open the repeater at that low power at this distance with the somewhat compromised antenna I use. It was just too bad there seemed to be nobody around to talk to.

New part coming soon for my #HamRadio Single-paddle #MorseCode key system. This is a base that you can glue magnets into, for using the key on a steel block like the commonly-used jeweler's blocks. Like the rest of my system, it is parametric, designed to be easily modified in FreeCAD. The screen shot is an example for using a dozen ¼" magnets. However, the size of the hole for the magnet (6.55mm for 6.35mm ¼" magnets), depth of the hole, thickness of the block, and number of magnets in each direction are all parameters that you can tweak.

Please respond with a size of magnet that you have that you would want to use with this system! I'll use your responses to create some variations on this part to include in the next release. Sizes can be in metric or US customary units.

@HopelessDemigod I would watch the potato chip thing. Do it.
