I am a husband, electrical engineer, IT worker, and ham radio operator just trying to live a quiet life on my own terms. Former Coloradan, now living in #NewMexico since April 2025.

I post mostly about
#HamRadio #AmateurRadio and related topics, but any random thing that enters my mind may end up here. I do very occasionally post #USpol but I do not CW them. I do use the hashtag though, so you can filter those out if you don't want to see them.

...and while I was hooking up the charger to the car, I happened to glance down and find another chunk of that glass insulator. A piece of thick clear glass was right next to it, so I grabbed that too.

I was out in the yard for other reasons today and not looking for glass, but I happened to glance down and spot this fat piece. This was found in the same general area as that fragment of glass insulator I posted a few days ago, and I believe this is another piece of the same.

I don't usually wash what I find for fear of getting cut, but I wanted to have a better look at this one. It's a nice color. I like it.

I've had this 120mm x 65mm x 40mm box for several years, but I don't remember where I bought it. Now I have a need for another one for a different project but I can't find one anywhere. I like this size and would prefer to stick with it, but I may not be able to.
My shack has always been the hottest room in the house. It's on the opposite end of the house from the AC unit and it has a west facing window. So in the afternoon, that little puff of semi cool air coming out of the vent just can't keep up with the sun blasting through the window. I've tried to crank up the AC to keep it cool in here, but that results in freezing out the rest of the house. My wife likes it a little warmer so she was not happy with me when I did that.

Today I got this little AC unit for the shack and it's just what I needed. I can get frosty in here while my wife enjoys her warmer temps. Fantastic.

Wife: "Hey the internet isn't working."
Me: "Hmm. It seems ok. Let me have a look."
I walk in to her office and find the dog under her desk and actively chewing the network cable in half.
Me: "Well here's your problem!"
Today's #yardglass. I walked an area that I haven't picked very much, and there was a ton of brown glass all over the place. I didn't pick all of it up because I was managing my dog with one hand and picking this stuff up with the other. There's still a lot out there.

The only interesting bit is the green one in the center. It's rather thick and has those teeth along the bottom. On it is a partial word ...EMIN... with a No. below it, but the number has been lost. Is this part of an old glass insulator?

The only other notable piece is the brown one just above it that has a line through it.
Here's today's yard glass. I took my dog on her bathroom break out to a part of the yard I don't walk all that often and got more glass than usual. You can't tell in this picture, but that blue one in the middle is iridescent and probably came from something really nice. The white ones are some kind of ceramic.

If I had thought these would be as interesting as they apparently are to all of you, I would have been posting them for the year that we've lived here. I usually just throw them away, but recently I've thought about running them through a rock tumbler and making some faux sea glass out of them. They're pretty small though, so I don't think there would be much left of them after tumbling.

My yard is full of broken glass for some reason. Every time I go outside I pick up what I see. This is today's haul.

Our 12 week old puppy really did a number on the carpet here. We've caught her doing this a couple of times and stopped her before too much damage was done, but this time we didn't catch it in time.

How do you train a dog to not chew up the carpet? She doesn't seem to chew on anything else but her toys.
Really struggling to get my oil changed. The drain plug appears to have been torqued down by The Incredible Hulk himself and I can't get it loosened. The cheap little impact driver I have just isn't up to the task.
