@androidarts Sure, there were expansions and pseudo-sequels and full-blown sequels (and whatever is happening with SWOS these days!), but nothing like the patch culture and incremental updates of today.

I feel like we lost something in all our technological progress of the last 30 years.

There is a desire that because we can, we must. Mind you, it also seems like a game is declared 'dead' if it doesn't have continuous updates...

@androidarts I find the indie scene tends to eschew a lot of that stuff where you can just buy a game and play a game.

The updates question is different; games back in the day tended not to get updates, but because the tools are there now, devs tend to use them.

I do wonder if there's a need for a more permanent sense of persistence about a release.

OK, so let's ask the internet hive mind.

I haven't built a desktop app in decades.

Have debated a paint package, an audio tool and a sort of word processor, but no firm ideas settling.

What should I build? Would prefer no Electron/Tauri involved either.

You know what I want social media for? To tell people their projects rock. Made a cool diorama? I support it. Great woodworking project? F*** yeah. Garden's looking good? Great job, friend. Painting turned out how you wanted it? Or close? Love it. That's what makes me happy. Telling you the things that make you happy rock.
@grumpygamer Trying things outside of one's wheelhouse is good - especially as it gives you fresh perspective for what *is* in the wheelhouse...
@GrundislavGames they *are* works of art. I would possibly question whether some of them are *games* (as opposed to *experiences*, as game implies there are risks and rewards, and most modern P&C don’t have a failure state other than the player leaving), but *all* P&C games are art. They’re all creative expressions that reflect your take on the world, and demand a reaction from any who care to observe. If they’re somehow not art, what are they?
@scarfolk But as of 1st January 1973, Don't. One presumes "Don't" also includes "Don't re-read".
@grumpygamer This server is full of awesome, clever, witty, creative people. And, inexplicably, me getting to watch it all in not-quite-real time...
@grumpygamer RSS, the original "Fediverse". Those were the days.
