One of the main feature of the #fediverse, is to be able to block a full instance if that instance is tolerating or even encouraging behaviors that your users don’t want.
If instances become too big, you have two options:
1. Block way too much innocent persons, making your users complains that they can’t contact their friends anymore.
2. Don’t block it and lose the feature of offering a safe space.
@aral repeated this enough: the secret sauce is to not allow instances to grow too big.
"meta" drama:
seems stupid to paint the anti-meta sentiment as strictly a one-sided, like oh they want to be your friends but you won't let them
facebook's gonna be forced to defed/censor me and my friends eventually anyway — for occasional nudity on the TL, for posting incredibly mean things about conservatives, for breaking some kind of information embargo the big companies are trying to enforce, for generally being a little bit unruly in a way the big companies don't like
Here is a statement from Kolektiva regarding Facebook ("Meta") soon launching a new app ("Threads" or "Project92") which will reportedly use ActivityPub and interoperate or federate with parts of the Fediverse.
Kolektiva was founded as a direct result of anarchist and antifascist projects being kicked off of Facebook in 2020. Our entire "raison d'etre" is to provide an independent autonomous alternative to corporate social media. We exist in opposition to Facebook and their ilk. We have no interest in federating with a network operated and controlled by Meta, even if it becomes technically possible.
Meta has shown its values and actions are not just incompatible with our world view but openly hostile towards it. Whereas we create a world based on mutual aid and voluntary cooperation Meta necessitates conflict and systems of domination in order to profit.
Kolektiva.social will not federate with whatever Meta's future presence on the Fediverse looks like. We will continue to strive towards a larger, more decentralized and anarchist Fediverse. We choose our autonomy and trust in the social experiment / counter culture we are co-creating with others who do not wield such abhorrent systems of power over us.
My favourite games from the #Steam #NextFest so far:
- Stray Gods
- The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
- Hidden Through Time 2
- Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
- Little Kitty, Big City
- F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch
- House Flipper 2
- Laysara: Summit Kingdom
- Paleo Pines
- Crossover: Roll For Initiative
Can recommend these. <3
Lately I've been kinda disappointed by RPG/JRPGs and I need some recommendations.
Newer RPGs that I've enjoyed (although writing is underwhelming on some):
- Chained Echoes
- Citizen Sleeper
- Disco Elysium
- Octopath Traveler I & II
- Live A Live
- Persona 4 & 5
Please no action adventure/hack & slash/souls games! Also, I grew up on 90s RPGs so I've already played through the Chrono, Mana, Final fantasy, Lufia, and the Golden Sun series.
